On 20 and 21 November 2024, the Research Center of Post-Mining (FZN) at the Georg Agricola University of Applied Sciences (THGA) hosted the 5th project meeting of the research project GreenJOBS - Leveraging the competitive advantages of end-of-life underground coal mines to maximize the creation of green and quality jobs. The research team led by Julia Haske (project manager FZN) is investigating how former mining regions can be used in a smart and sustainable way.<\/p>\n

Under the direction of Tansel Dogan and with the support of Kai van de Loo and Hernan Flores (all FZN), the participants from Spain, Poland and Slovenia were guided through the program content and excursions.<\/p>\n

The two-day event focused on key issues relating to the transformation of post-mining regions: from a renewable energy future and innovative business models to further training and retraining measures.
\nOn the second day, the international participants had the opportunity to visit the control room in Herne with the support of RAG. The program included the mine water control room and the mine rescue training area. A subsequent visit to the Zollern colliery in Essen also made it possible to view an underground shaft backfill under monument protection regulations.<\/p>\n

All participants were very satisfied with the intensive professional exchange and the valuable impulses that the meeting provided for the transformation in post-mining regions. The FZN would like to thank all partners and participants for the successful event and the productive collaboration.<\/p>\n
