By signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the partners aim to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the fields of sustainable exploration and use of geo-resources, post-mining transformation and land-use governance.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The MoU is embedded within the strategic partnership between Germany, the European Union, and India, and directly supports the recently reinforced Germany - India Raw Materials Partnership, highlighted at the highest political level, including the visit of the German Federal Chancellor to India.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Integrating Resource Security, Water Management, and Nature Protection<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>India has diverse georesources and technology materials, essential for its energy transition and industrial transformation. Their responsible development, however, requires integrated approaches that combine extraction with water management, environmental protection, and long-term post-mining planning.<\/p>\n<p>Within this cooperation, the Research Center of Post-Mining (Forschungszentrum Nachbergbau, FZN) contributes internationally recognized expertise in:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mine water management, including pit lake and polder systems and long-term pumping and controlled flooding concepts<\/li>\n<li>Acid mine drainage (AMD) prevention and treatment, including hydrogeochemical monitoring and risk mitigation<\/li>\n<li>Mine closure, rehabilitation, and long-term environmental monitoring<\/li>\n<li>Post-mining land use, industrial heritage protection, and adaptive reuse, linking safety, ecology, and regional development<\/li>\n<li>Industrial culture and heritage-based regeneration, transforming former mining sites into assets for education, innovation, and local economies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These competencies are grounded in the long mining and post-mining experience of the Ruhr region, one of the world\u2019s most intensively transformed industrial landscapes.<\/p>\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div id=\"fws_69e77ac7efc39\" data-midnight=\"\" data-column-margin=\"default\" class=\"wpb_row vc_row-fluid vc_row inner_row standard_section\"  style=\"padding-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; \"><div class=\"row-bg-wrap\"> <div class=\"row-bg\" ><\/div> <\/div><div class=\"row_col_wrap_12_inner col span_12  left\">\n\t<div  class=\"vc_col-sm-4\/5 wpb_column column_container vc_column_container col child_column no-extra-padding inherit_tablet inherit_phone\"   data-t-w-inherits=\"default\" data-bg-cover=\"\" data-padding-pos=\"all\" data-has-bg-color=\"false\" data-bg-color=\"\" data-bg-opacity=\"1\" data-hover-bg=\"\" data-hover-bg-opacity=\"1\" data-animation=\"\" data-delay=\"0\">\n\t\t<div class=\"vc_column-inner\" ><div class=\"column-bg-overlay-wrap\" data-bg-animation=\"none\"><div class=\"column-bg-overlay\"><\/div><\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t\r\n<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\r\n\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\r\n\t\t<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cSustainable resource security can only be achieved when land use, water management, and nature protection are planned together from the very beginning. Its core strengths include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sustainable land management and restoration<\/li>\n<li>Forest\u2013land\u2013resource interfaces<\/li>\n<li>Biodiversity conservation and ecosystem-based approaches<\/li>\n<li>Policy advisory functions aligned with national environmental priorities<\/li>\n<li>Capacity building for public institutions and implementing agencies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\r\n\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\r\n\t\t<p>COE-SLM further advances science\u2013policy interface initiatives, knowledge platforms, and capacity development programmes aligned with India\u2019s commitments towards <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unccd.int\/land-and-life\/land-degradation-neutrality\/overview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Land Degradation Neutrality<\/a><\/strong>, ecosystem restoration, and climate resilience. As a Centre of Excellence under ICFRE, it serves as a strategic platform for fostering South\u2013South cooperation, facilitating exchange of knowledge, best practices, and policy-relevant solutions
