REMINDNET

European knowledge management for dealing with the consequences of mining

The FZN is a member of the pan-European network REMINDNET (Recovery of Mining District Network), which brings together more than 50 partners from 33 countries. The network promotes the exchange of knowledge and is developing a joint research agenda for dealing with the aftermath of raw material extraction. The main aim is to minimize the risks to people and the environment that result from the consequences of mining.

In particular, improperly closed or abandoned mines represent a difficult legacy for governments, communities and mining companies. Specialized knowledge and methods are required to successfully close and rehabilitate former mines. Working together, the network aims to close the knowledge gap on the sustainable management of contaminated sites.

REMINDNET is made up of natural-, geo- and social scientists, engineers, humanities scholars and economists from universities, colleges and research institutions as well as experts from public authorities, companies and NGOs.
