RE-ACTIVATE: EU project for the reactivation of former mine sites

Brainstorming for innovative solutions for subsequent use

RE-ACTIVATE is the title of a project in which numerous European research institutions are working together and jointly focussing on the reactivation of former mineworks and the economic development of geological deposits. The aim is to develop techniques and methods for the reactivation of former mining sites located in the EU. As one of the project partners, the FZN is responsible for the development of improved technologies and methods for the reuse of old tailing ponds and spoil tips.

The project is funded by the EIT Raw Materials network as part of Horizon 2020, an EU research programme. EIT RawMaterials is Europe’s principal raw materials research network.
