The Research Center for Post-Mining (FZN) is taking a significant step forward in its role as a leading institution for research and innovation in the field of reactivation and transition.
Starting in 2025, the FZN will launch a new series of conferences, organized in cooperation with the G20 Global Land Initiative | UNCCD, that will focus on land restoration, sustainable transformation, and the economic development of post-mining regions.
The series kicks off with the international symposium “Land of Opportunities – International Symposium on Land Restoration and Sustainable Transformation”.
Opportunities for Sustainable Transformation
The international symposium aims to intensify the scientific dialogue on the sustainable use of postmining areas and develop new forward-thinking solutions.
This will be supported by interdisciplinary discussions, practical workshops, and exciting excursions in the Ruhr Region.
Scientists from the fields of environmental sciences, geology, resource management, ecological restoration, and economic transformation are invited to present their latest research, engage in discussions with other experts, and explore new opportunities for collaboration.
The Symposium – A Unique Networking Opportunity
In addition to keynote speeches by international experts and practical workshops, the symposium offers numerous networking opportunities. Scientists, political decision-makers, companies and NGOs will have the opportunity to forge new partnerships and jointly shape innovative paths for sustainable development. The event also offers a unique insight into the history and transformation of the Ruhr region - a region that is now considered a role model for sustainable structural change.
